The Morgan horse breed originated from the New England state of Vermont. It was created by Justin Morgan, who desired a horse strong enough to work in the fields, pull carriages, and carry a rider on its back, though elegant and fancy enough to show off in town. The first horse was named Figure, and the entire breed was named after Justin Morgan himself. The breed is said to be very versatile. It is commonly used in dsiciplines such as saddleseat and western. Common colors are light to dark bay, black, and chestnut (sorrel).
